TMG 2010: Microsoft risponde ai Partner

Contestualmente al lancio della notizia sulla chiusura di TMG 2010 è stato anche rilasciato il documento “Forefront Product Roadmap Changes Partner FAQ”; questo documento è rivolto ai Partner Microsoft impegnati nello sviluppo di soluzioni basate sulla linea di prodotti Forefront, fra i quali anche TMG 2010.   

In questo documento Microsoft cerca di chiarire le ragioni che sono alla base delle scelte fatte cercando al tempo stesso di fare luce sui passi che seguiranno.Vediamo quelli che sono i principali contenuti che interessano TMG 2010.

In primis si evince che la scelta di chiudure TMG 2010 è stata dettata dal mercato:

“…Microsoft has evolved its approach to security for core workloads in response to customer demand, continued increases in security threats, and feedback about Microsoft products and services. We have made an effort to better align our protection assets with the workloads they protect. The changes to the Forefront roadmaps are a result of these efforts…”

Purtroppo non sono previsti aggiornamenti significativi per TMG 2010, ma solo marginali aggiustamenti e patch di sicurezza; questa è un’altra cattiva notizia vista l’incompatibilità di TMG 2010 con Windows 2012:

“…However, there may be update pack releases that provide modest functionality improvements, as well as hotfixes to address customer issues…”

In chiusura del documento, pur non raccomandando alcun prodotto o vendor, Microsoft indica alcune possibili alternative a TMG 2010. Per le funzioni di Secure Web Gateway (Cache, Firewall, Filtering, IDS ecc.) i prodotti di Websense, BlueCoat, Juniper e Cisco; mentre invece come prodotto da utilizzare per la pubblicazione dei servizi Web, Exchange e Sharepoint il server Microsoft UAG 2010.

“…For customers using TMG for caching, secure web gateway, and firewall, we recommend that customers examine the many caching, secure web gateway, and firewall vendor solutions available in market today that offer comparable features to the TMG product. Microsoft partners that offer these solutions include Bluecoat, Cisco, Juniper, and Websense…”

“…Most web publishing scenarios that are supported by TMG can be published by UAG, including SharePoint and Exchange…”
