TMG 2010 andrà verso il cloud

In una delle prime speculazioni sulla chiusura di TMG 2010 si ventilava la necessità di ridisegnare la strategia di protezione in una logica distribuita come il Cloud richiede. Sicuramente altri fattori sono intervenuti nella decisione di Microsoft; in questo articolo pubblicato online da RedMond Magazine la società di consulenza Forrester Reasearch per voce di Rick Holland (Senior Analyst) fa alcune interessanti considerazioni sulle reali cause che hanno portato Microsoft alla chiusura di TMG 2010 e sulla possibile strada verso il cloud.

Di seguito i punti salienti delle considerazioni di Rick Holland:

“…From our client base whom I did consulting and inquiries with, it's very, very low on the list. Very few larger Forrester-type client enterprises have adopted that solution (Luca: nell’utilizzo di TMG 2010 come Secure Web Gateway). One of the nice stories about Microsoft is that a lot of times you get a product with your licensing agreement…so that may have been the case for some of the adoption we saw in this space, but clearly you don't see it [TMG 2010] in large organizations…”

…aggiunge elementi che possono chiarire sulla scelta di chiusura, poi continua con la speculazione verso il Cloud:

“…Another thing that may have something to do with it -- maybe more on the three- to five-year horizon -- is the advent of software as a service for this capability…” 

“…If I'm roaming and I had to work remotely,instead of having to backhaul my Internet traffic to the closest Threat Management Gateway, I could connect to a cloud node that maybe is right down the street from me in Dallas, rather than having to connect to the Forrester backhaul in Boston…”
